Subclass 189 - Skilled Independent Visa

 

The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a Permanent Visa for highly skilled workers or New Zealand Citizens who wish to live and work in Australia. This Visa is assessed based on a points system, requiring applicants to receive an invitation from the Australian Government to apply. The advantage of this Visa is that you do not need sponsorship from a State Government or a relative to apply.

Conditions:

  • Receive an invitation to apply for this Visa. You need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be invited by the Australian Government.
  • Have a successful skills assessment for an occupation listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • You can be inside or outside of Australia when applying for the visa.
  • Be under 45 years old.
  • Score at least 65 points on the Immigration points test.
  • Meet English language proficiency requirements.
  • Meet health requirements.
  • Meet character requirements.
  • Have not had a previous Visa application refused.
