If you are unlawfully staying in Australia, you can still apply for a tourist visa in Australia within 28 days from the time your substantive visa expires. This notice is effective from March 5, 2022.
For example, you are in Australia on a tourist visa (valid for 1 year) to visit your child. However, due to the covid situation, if you cannot buy a plane ticket to depart Australia, you can still apply for a new tourist visa in Australia.
