IS IT NECESSARY TO APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP WHEN A BABY IS BORN IN AUSTRALIA AND HAS AUSTRALIAN CITIZEN PARENTS?

People believe that if a baby whose parents are Australian citizens is born in Australia, the baby will automatically hold an Australian citizen.

HOWEVER… This is only 50% correct…!

Because after the baby is born, the baby must have their Australian citizenship status confirmed by the Department of Home Affairs through an application made by the parents or the legal representative of the parents.

Once the Department of Home Affairs issues an Australian Citizenship Certificate for the baby, only then will the baby be officially recognized as an Australian citizen.

You can apply as soon as the baby is born or at a later time. However, to make the process easier and quicker, JL Migration & Education recommends that you apply as soon as the baby is born.

If you encounter any difficulties in applying for citizenship for your baby, JL Migration & Education is ready to assist you in completing the application. The citizenship certificate will be sent directly to the parents' address or to the JL Migration & Education office once issued.
