8 STEPS FOR A WELL-PREPARED PARTNER VISA APPLICATION AT THE ART 

Since October 14, 2024, the AAT has officially been renamed the ART.
What are the steps you believe are necessary to ensure a smooth hearing before the scheduled “Hearing” date?

Below are some fundamental steps compiled by JL. Of course, to go into more detail, there will be many more tasks that need to be done together.

1. REVIEW THE ENTIRE APPLICATION:
Ensure that all documents and statements have been fully updated and submitted to the Tribunal, including evidence of the relationship, joint finances, witness statements, etc.

2. UPDATE NEW EVIDENCE:
Gather additional evidence (if any) such as photos, letters, or joint activities since the initial application was submitted. Any new favourable evidence will always be seen as a positive point.

3. PREPARE WITNESSES:
Witnesses must genuinely understand the authenticity of the relationship, including friends, family, or acquaintances of both parties. Be mindful that any unfavourable testimony from a witness may negatively impact your application.

4. LEARN ABOUT THE ART PROCESS:
Understand the ART ’s procedures, including the schedule, legal procedures, and preparation requirements before the hearing. Always arrive 30 minutes to one hour early to be ready and feel more confident.

5. CONSULT LEGAL REPRESENTATION:
Ensure you have a legal representative at the Tribunal. This will help protect your interests and minimise risks arising from any legal misunderstandings during the hearing.

6. THINK ABOUT POTENTIAL QUESTIONS:
Consider and prepare potential questions the Member might ask about your relationship and the evidence in the application. This will help you respond confidently and systematically.

7. MAINTAIN A STABLE MINDSET:
Prepare mentally and emotionally for the hearing. Be ready to explain and provide information when needed. Remember that the Member will be impartial, supporting you by reviewing your appeal thoroughly.

8. CHOOSE APPROPRIATE ATTIRE:
While there are no strict dress codes, neutral, harmonious colours, neat hair, and minimal jewellery will create a positive impression with the Member.

Careful preparation of documents, physical presence, and mindset will always be helpful and increase your chances of success in your Partner Visa application at the ART.
