To become a Registered Migration Agent, one must complete a specialised course called the Graduate Diploma of Migration Law and Practice. Unlike General Law courses, this program focuses exclusively on Australian Migration Law. Students are required to complete subjects such as:

- Fundamentals of Migration Law
- The Australian Visa System
Short-term and long-term Visa Streams (Visitor, Work, Permanent Residency, etc.)
- Family reunion Visas and Protection/Refugee Visas
- In-depth regulations for each Visa subclass and procedures for Appealing Visa Refusals

Beyond theory, they must also complete practical training at major Migration firms through the practical subject called “Migration Law in Practice”. That is why you will notice a clear difference when working with a properly trained and qualified Migration Agent — such as those at JL Migration & Education.

In addition, to maintain their registration, all Registered Migration Agents are required to undertake annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses.
Strict adherence to this regulation is not only a mandatory requirement, but it's also a key factor that helps Migration Agents maintain service quality and énure sustainable operation in the profession.
