Capstone is the final mandatory assessment that one must pass to become a Registered Migration Agent in Australia. This assessment comprehensively tests a candidate’s competency, including their understanding of Australian Migration Law, Legal submission skills, handling practical casework, and professional ethics. It is not merely a theoretical test - it is a rigorous assessment of one’s actual capacity to perform the job.

According to the College of Law, from 2018 to 2020, the national pass rate for the Capstone Assessment was only around 20%. JL’s Registered Migration Agent, Mr. Lee Paris (MARN 2016039), successfully passed the Capstone Assessment during that particularly challenging period. This achievement reflects his serious dedication and structured investment in professional expertise.

After 2021, data released by Legal Training Australia shows that the pass rates for each part (written and oral) of the Capstone Assessment are approximately 65%. However, when considering the entire assessment, only around 45% of candidates successfully passed the entire Capstone Assessment from 2021 to 2024. However overall, since 2021, the pass rate has significantly improved, creating more opportunities for candidates to become Australia Migration Agents.

The Capstone Assessment remains a demanding challenge. Therefore, successfully passing the Capstone Assessment is a clear testament to one’s competence and professional commitment.
